But again – virus detection of any kind is just one small part of a much larger story. For true end-to-end protection, you need to go a fair bit deeper. Luckily, that’s exactly what Filestack was designed to do.
To create an environment for the most secure upload possible, Filestack employs state-of-the-art encryption at all points of the secure file transfer process. Even while a file is sitting idle on your server, it’s still totally protected against individuals with malicious intentions. Secure document upload encryption also makes sure that even if someone did intercept a file, they wouldn’t be able to access the essential information contained inside without the appropriate key, which they won’t have.
Filestack also uses Transport Layer Security, otherwise known as TLS, to prevent malicious file upload problems and similar issues on an ongoing basis. TLS is an effective way to secure all communications between two points. It’s actually the successor to Secure Socket Layer or SSL and offers a more robust level of protection than that particular option.
Another essential part of our security offerings has to do with authentication. Both authentication and authorization against our APIs relies heavily on Base64URL-encoded JSON “policies” along with HMAC-SHA256 “signatures” that are built to determine which actions are authorized and which are not.

Depending on your preferences, you specify down to the user account who has access to what information and who doesn’t. You can also track someone else’s activity within the system on a granular level, giving you the visibility needed to determine why changes are being made and who is involved in that activity.

Even if a cyber criminal were to gain access to the network, segmentation is in place (also sometimes called “zoning”) that will provide the controls necessary to limit their activities during intrusion. It’s an idea not to dissimilar to how businesses usually separate payment card authorizations from consumer Wi-Fi traffic. Even if the Wi-Fi network were compromised, that payment information would still be safe because it was never “there” to begin with. With network and data separation, Filestack affords the same level of security to everything you’ve already worked so hard to build.
Overall, the file upload security and other features inherent within Filestack are designed to guarantee protection at all times – whether a file is in transit or at rest doesn’t actually matter. This means not only secure file transfers in both directions, but secure file storage as well.
