We’ve just rolled out a significant upgrade to asset management on the Filestack platform. It features a new Digital Asset Management (DAM) system and a comprehensive Event Logger. We designed these components to give you more detailed control and deeper insight into your asset lifecycle.
Inside Our New Digital Asset Management (DAM)
We built our new DAM to be a centralized hub for managing and retrieving assets within your application’s workflows. It is powered by a high-performance search engine and a responsive indexing process we’ve implemented.
Find Any Asset Instantly with Advanced Search
We’ve re-engineered the search backend, which makes queries significantly faster now. We also made sure assets are indexed in near real-time, so they become searchable almost immediately after you upload them.
Our search API enables you to build precise asset retrieval logic by supporting queries against multiple attributes:
- File names, Filestack handles, tags, and descriptions
- Full metadata key-value pairs
- File type categories (e.g., Document, Image) and specific MIME types (e.g., image/jpeg)
- Upload source and custom upload date ranges
Preview and Manage Files Directly in Your Browser
We now provide three distinct views for you: a thumbnail Block View, a data-rich List View, and a focused Edit View. One of the key features we’ve added is the ability to preview files directly in the browser from the Edit View. This is supported for all natively rendered file types, including images, videos, PDFs, and audio, removing the need to download a file just to inspect it.

Upload and Transform Assets Without Leaving the DAM
We’ve integrated our Filepicker directly into the DAM for a more cohesive workflow. It supports all its standard functionalities, like pre-upload validation.
We also added a new UI so you can perform common asset modifications without leaving the DAM. You can now resize, crop, and convert formats for JPG and PNG files, reducing the need for you to build custom UIs for these common, API-driven tasks. For more on optimizing image file formats, check out this article on the best image file types, their benefits, and use cases.
Edit Metadata and Download On-the-Fly
In the Edit View, you can manually add, edit, or remove tags and descriptions in real time. When retrieving assets, we’ve made it easy for you to download the original version or convert it to a different format just before downloading, all powered by our robust conversion API.
Trace Every Action with Our New Event Logger
We know that understanding an asset’s lifecycle is vital for your debugging and auditing processes. To provide this visibility, we built the new Event Logger to log all key asset activities in a performant, searchable database. Each log entry we create includes the action type, the user responsible, and a precise timestamp.
The system automatically logs:
- Uploads
- Edits
- Transformations & Conversions
- File Removals/Deletions
Secure Your Team with Our New “Asset Manager” Role
To help you manage teams securely, we created the Asset Manager role. This role provides full access to our new DAM and Event Logger but explicitly denies access to sensitive areas like your billing and API key configuration. Asset Managers can only view and manage assets associated with the specific API keys you have granted them access to, ensuring security in your multi-application environments. Browser and Device Support
We support the new UI for the DAM and Event Logger across the two most recent major versions of Chrome, Safari, and Mozilla Firefox. Our testing covers key desktop resolutions (1920×1080, 1366×768) and standard mobile resolutions (360×800, 390×844).
See How It Works
We built a click-through demo for the new DAM. It shows the whole workflow: uploading a file, finding it in the DAM, and viewing its event history.

Final Thoughts
This major upgrade represents our commitment to providing you with best-in-class tools for managing your content lifecycle. From the granular search and integrated transformations in the new DAM to the complete visibility offered by the Event Logger, these features are designed to give you more power and control. The new functionality is live in your dashboard now.
We look forward to your feedback and can’t wait to see how you use them.
